Gm vs Coscast
What are peoples thoughts on Gm vs coscast heads for xe/let engine, struggling to find a coscast and gm if repaired should be as good yes/no?

iv a coscast on the se2 but it was by chance iv had no problems with either but i'm not running silly BHP only 280 on the let

Seen that, end up £500+ with postage, stuff that for a head, picking up an Se2 tommorow with a spare Gm head for £200, Reckon I'll take Gm head off it and mot to sell on,rather than shell out sill money for a head

i have run both without any bother although i did do the head sleeve before i used the gm head that I had.

Never ran a costcast on a single one of mine. had the head on/off plenty of times, never had a problem. maybe i got lucky

have had both, incidently the engine that is in the turbo now has a GM head and have had no problems

my let and xe are both on gm units, as said before i personally think they are overrated and over priced

If an untouched GM head has lasted until 100k miles it will probably last the life of the car. If you disturb it it would pay to do the oilway sleeve mod, for peace of mind if nothing else, as it is so simple to do if the head is off the engine.
Performance wise there is nothing to choose although some say an early Coscast head from an XEJ, ex an Astra, has better airflow.
I can't see why Coscasts cost so much more than GM heads. The power of a myth I suppose.
