Engine de-carbon

I been asked a question by a friend that i would like some advice on. He wants to know has anyone done a de-carbon on there engine using this process, take the inlet pipe of whilst engine is running and with a water gun/bottle with a fine mist spray and then spray a short burst into the pipe the engine is then supposed to fade a little bit then back to normal. He has been told this does the job but has had mechanics saying this shouldn't be done. All advice welcome thank you
