Recreating the Calibra DTM “Flying Chips” badge

by QuattroTom » Fri Feb 20, 2026 8:35 pm

Quite a while back a friend asked if I could recreate the Calibra DTM “Flying Chips” badge, as his originals were pretty worn and decent replacements are basically impossible to find now. He still had one original badge, which I used as the reference.

I spent a lot of time modelling it properly and iterating on test prints until the sizing and proportions matched as closely as possible. Once the design was finished it sat on a hard drive for a long time.

More recently I upgraded my printers and materials, so I revisited the design and reprinted it as a solid, raised badge rather than foam or flat vinyl. These are printed deliberately slowly using a 0.2 nozzle, with additional finishing passes on the top surface, as speeding them up or using larger nozzles noticeably reduces the quality. It’s about as good as I’d be happy fitting to my own car.

While working on this I also noticed how little solid information there is online about these badges, which cars had them, and where they were originally placed. There are very few clear reference photos, which makes them seem quite rare now.

I’ve ended up making a few sets available as a result, as a few people asked about them. Thought the ClubCalibra community might appreciate seeing the finished result.

Hi QuattroTom,
Looks like you achieved close to perfection, well done. Do these come with a peel off sticky back on the rear. or do you glue them on , or have to cut out your own double sided tape ??
I think I have seen single versions of these on the rear of the boot. I have seen the full side of a Calibra door with a chips decal on it. But don't often see your ones.
Have you any photos of what way they are best used/displayed on the car, to give an idea of size and best position.
Thanks
Suzi.
