Calibra Turbo on Stelvio Pass
Sept 10-22, we took a mountain trekking & motoring break in Northern Italy & Tuscany. Our driving route can be seen here:
http://bit.ly/b5JzBh
Following a 7 day hut-to-hut trek in the Italian Dolomites, we headed over to Solda in the Stelvio National Park. Drop of rain, overnight snow and lots of sunshine. Perfect setup for the 48 corners of Stelvio at the weekend.
The attraction was obvious:

The 'road' in the pix is by point D on the map. It leads up to the Stelvio pass.
Short clip taken just under halfway down, around corners 20-22
:
We checked in to a gorgeous B&B in Solda near the foot of the Stelvio Pass road. 27 euro per person per night with a great breakfast.

It hammered down with rain on the Saturday which was a touch unfortunate for the group of 12 or more Opel Speedsters. However all change come Sunday - this is sunrise as seen from the bed/ balcony in our B&B:

One of the advantages of being in Solda is that we could get to the Stelvio Pass long before the hordes arrived from Germany etc. And they arrive in their BMW/Merc/ Audi masses....
Only saw two UK plated cars; a white & blue 80s (I think) Porsche and the ultimate Stelvio machine, an Aston Martin:

Other than the two purple Calibras
, the stand-out car was definitely a pale blue Aston Convertible from Genova. No pix though
Early morn on Sunday & Monday, we had the pass almost to ourselves:

I say almost; at all times of day there are the nuisance bikers who always take the line on the corners - a real pain both going up and down.

Another shot parked at the Pass:

View from the Pass; I would guess that the stretch from corner 8 to corner 18 is in sight:

Leaving Monday morning, we dropped a walking companion off at Verona then headed to Pienza in Tuscany for a couple of days before catching the ferry home. If anyone is interested in the hiking / Tuscany bit let me know and I'll post a few from the 1000odd pix taken, lol.
