Hello and goodbye
Hello peeps,
I'm sure the majority of you won't recognise me but 2003-2004 ish I used to hang around on the forum and go to shows with the club before I moved to Germany. Whilst I was there my beloved cally turbo fell foul of my lifestyle at the time which involved rather enthusiastic driving on their high quality roads and a serious lack of money to keep her maintained. The inevitable consequence was that the car fell apart! The engine seized up so I decided to garage it and turn it into a project. VW golfs are easy to work on and extremely well supported in Germany, so I wound up doing up some early golfs which came my way for free and put the calibra on hold (still into golfs now, building a track mk2 8v). When I came back to the UK I trailered the calibra back but soon found that it had developed rust on the front suspension turrets. So faced with doing a load of welding and an engine change on a car that doesn't fetch allot of money anyway, I decided to break it.
That was probably around 3 years ago! It's been sat on me mums drive for that time so I've finally got around to taking some time off and pulling it apart. I've another 5 days off and will take it to bits in that time. hope to sell most bits in the next week or so and get the shell taken away or else incur the wrath of mum for turning the drive into a scrappy. I'll do a classifieds ad for the car itself but I thought I'd pop in and say hi to my old calibra friends anyway. Still quite a few names posting on here I recognise which is great to see.
Matt

Re: Hello and goodbye
Thats a shame Matt..but hopefully you enjoyed making her fall to bits in Germany?...I hope you realise a bit of cash from breaking?...and any plans on re-joining the Calibra fold?

Re: Hello and goodbye
yeah it was a good laugh! Well indeed I should get a few quid which I can put towards the credit card and the golf so I can get back into track days early next year. Interior, wheels and gearbox should fetch a decent amount.
Probably not to be honest, I'm now into small fun cars and big practical daily drivers (05 passat estate, massive boot, silent running and 50mpg- boring though!) so the calibra doesn't really fit in. I still love the look of them and loved the power of the turbo but to be honest I can't see myself getting another one.

Heya Ian, wondered if I'd find you on here! Still in Deutschland then and got another Germany posting lined up, lucky sod. My UK posting was ************ so I PVR'd. Had a good civvy job offer over there a while back, really fancied coming back over, I do miss it. Its good being out though. Good luck getting your car going again, probably a bit of a drive for you to buy my interior now though! Hope the family is having fun over there.
Heya Baz, nice to hear from you again, thanks. Seems quieter on here than it used to be though?
