Eventful day working on the Calibra..
First decent day weather wise today so decided to get on with a job ive wanted to do for ages, strip out the interior and find the water leak!!
Every time it's chucked it down the drivers carpet always gets wet from underneath, so needed to find out why...and before anyone says clean the scuttle out, it's clean, and so is the drain trunk
Seats, console and carpet out, to find front drivers sound-deadening sapping so i cut that out (Will duct-tape it back together when i re-fit)....got hose out and stood for 5-10 mins with it on windscreen.....checked back inside and there is a fast drip coming down from by the heater box bit to where the clutch foot-rest usually is, so had to be scuttle related somewhere.
Opened bonnet, took wipers off, wiper motor etc out, pollen filter too and the blower motor/inlet cowl out too....the underside was covered in a thick black slime and also the seal was past its best and coming unstuck in places...no wonder i was getting water inside..infact i could see the water sat in where the blow sits!!
Cleaned that all up and cleaned round the blower inlet with white spirit, and siliconed all round the seal on the cowl and ran a bead over the seal too for added sealing, and bolted everything back in (Fitted a new pollen filter while i was at it), fingers crossed thats sorted it....will give it a soaking tomorrow unless the rain beats me to it
I also have some rust in the floor round the drain holes etc, my garage said they didnt look too bad when they had a look underneath and said i could get away with removing the rust, treating it and undersealing it....but i think i might ask them to weld some new metal in while everything's out, do it properly.
Need to dry the sound-deadening out and give the carpets abit of a clean up before everything gets put back.
Sorry no pics....i just thought i'd let people know what ive been upto lol, and maybe if yours have a water leak, then do what ive done

They are not that bad Steve....the car has had mats since new so carpets are very clean and fluffy, its only the footrest and under the accelerator on the drivers side and the wheel arch bit on the passenger side....bit of AutoGlym Interior Shampoo and a scrub and they'll be fine

and only very very fine marks on the rears.
