Newbie rolling resto.
Newbie rolling resto.
So I needed/wanted to put my car as a project. Mainly for me but to show what I have done. It's not gonna be quick so bear with me.
Re: Newbie rolling resto.
Some of you will recognise the car, it has survived over the years and been rescued at least once in its life, the last 2 owners have left it better than they found it and now it's my turn.
It has some wheel arch welding to be done as it won't pass mot like it is, so I have repair panels ready to go salvaged from an old DTM.
Then I have a long list of jobs to do to get it how I want her but important things first.
Cam belt, water pump, drive belt and all rollers done first now onto make her water tight

It would be brilliant to see a build thread, there are still several of us who visit regularly - please post updates as you go, i for one will enjoy seeing how you go!

Re: Newbie rolling resto.
Minor work today as its cold here.
Rear mudflaps fitted, fronts to follow once I find a passenger one.

Re: Newbie rolling resto.
So when you thought you had plugged the hole at the front of the floor with tape and mastic and the floor carries on getting wetter and wetter I pull back the carpet and find the two rear separate holes at the back. Rubbish
Now I have to spend tomorrow cutting out and welding in patches.

Re: Newbie rolling resto.
Hopefully a relatively easy repair and will save some hassle at the MOT - no fun though... but that’s it with these things at the age they are

I know right, used to it, been doing this for a while with original beetles. Few patch panels and some replacement soundproofing will be great.
Re: Newbie rolling resto.
So had a few hours today to get the seats and rear carpet out, knew about some of the damage but this one is the worst, at some point it has been bottomed out and dented so that needs pushing back out.
Got some new metal to put in so not too worried. Did find loads of fuses and a twenty pence winner.

Re: Newbie rolling resto.
Looks good bud. I hope you don't need to mod the rear seats to much to get them to fit.
Phill.
Re: Newbie rolling resto.
Not too sure, was mainly interested in the fronts but fingers crossed rear go too
