by meisner » Tue Jul 14, 2020 8:57 am

Greetings from Estonia.

Its been over 9 years when i owned a Calibra.I had to sell my last calibra because my son was born.So it took time but here it is.

I Bought a 1997 Opel Calibra v6 Keke Rosberg Edtion number 852 of 1000.My car was made in Finland.

Car is like any other Calibra exept few mods. ;)

Keke Rosberg badges on the doors and trunk.

Irmscher 30 mm lowered springs.

Irmscher rear spoiler with brake light.

Seats with yellow stripes.

Keke Rosberg badge in the center console.

BBS 16 inch wheels.

Door openers and roof strips are in body color.

I will add a video what i made when i bought the car in 07.08.2020

So i made the first wash after purchase.

Because the wheels were quite dirty they needed some scrubing

Image

Right side washed.

Vs left side.

Before and after.
Image

Image

Scrubed the muffler also clean.

Image

Engine bay got a little cleaner.Does anyone have that peace what goes under front panel and is for ventilator pipe.
Image

Image

Because someone had to much brute force then the handbrake leaver is bent.
I used some tools and bent it back.Probably when it got bent then someone broke the
plastic frame what is under the leather.Instead putting some glue there he decided to put a screw though leather.
I glued the plastik together and removed the screw and its fixed.

Also the gear leaver frame was broken and leather put on wrong way.
I took it appart and glued the plastik and put the leather on right way.

I didint liked that car papers were in a envolope,Thats why i bought a opel leather
document wallet and gave it a clean and leather cream.Result is pretty good

So this time i added lot of pictures and talk, but there is are lot of thinks to do.
In september is am planing to fix the front end.

Looking nice, seems like the specifications are very similar to the Opel Cliff Edition - the only notable thing being cloth trim versus leather. Really like that you’re trying to keep it original and fixing things up - it’s amazing what people do to cars to avoid spending a little money fixing things properly.

Please keep posting, great to see what people are doing with their cars!

Cliff thank you for your support.I am keeping my car as close as original as possible.

It was time to fix the wing brake light.

Since the last owner but led-is sequentially and the light was not bright enough. One led also was little dimmed then is changed everything.

I took the light appart and started working.

I added new wires and resistors. There is quite a diffrence. :D

This time worked on the gear linkage.Gears wont go in like they should and is wobbeling to much.
I ordered new bushings set and let my friend to the the linkage off and change the bushings. It got better but still there is some problem with going in.
I also made a video about it so others car see how to change them.

Hi, you have a nice looking calibra bud and I'm glad you're doing all the wee jobs to get her mint again. I also have a selector kit to change and your video will be very helpful. If you do any other work to the car then please put up lots of pictures and videos as we all like to see the progress and problem solving that comes with older cars. :D

Phill thank you for the good words.

It was time to remove the clicking sound on the doors. There are plastic washers what wear out and under pressure they make the sound.
Also with the last job i found out that alternator belt has a crack and needs replacing.
There were 2 diffrent belts for 1997 calibra with AC so i took both and next wednesday my friend will change it.
I ordered new door washers from my local opel dealer.I ordered 3 sets because never know when they stop making them.
I also bought new transmission oil. When i checked the papers what came with the car the i saw that transmission oil was last changed in 2009 when calibra came to Estonia.
I hope that transmission is ok and oil change will solve the gear problem.
I will add some pictures
Alternator belt right now.

Finaly i got the alternator belt and transmission oil changed.
With the alternator belt there werent any problems but with transmission it there was.
I dont know who previously changed the transmission oil but the bolts were tightened with brute force.
I had to buy new bolts because the old ones were tired.
I got new bolts from my local dealer.
Gear change got better but there is still a problem with first and second gear.
What should i look when first and second go in when clutch i pressed fully down.
There is no problem with other gears.
I will add some pictures also.
Alternator belt before.

New belt on

Image

I also discovered that one engine cushion i worn out and they dont make it anymore.Thats why i have to get it custom made.
Looking the other cushions they are also worn out. This job is in the future.

Image

New transmission bolt.I bought two of them for the drain and check.

Image

Because the bolts didint come off then bigger tools were needed :D

Image
Finaly got the oil flowing.

Image

And always after maintance its time to clean the car. This time i cleaned the interior also.
