Replacing the ignition barrell with switches instead of key

by callymental » Wed May 04, 2005 7:10 pm

Has anyone done this? I only have one key for the car, and would be nice if I didn't have to make sure I left the key with the car when I don't take it.

I have thought about rewiring the ignition so it is done with switches . The started is already on the traction control switch.

Would stop any theiving scumbags too.

Any tips on how to do it, and what rating switches to use. Would like to have the switch able to have the stereo on without the ignition on too.

Cheers for that. I already have the traction control switch doing the start. Interesting stuff in that thread. Something will be done I think now.

What about using air con, and recirc switches for the two switches. Any comments.

Needs to be really stealthy

what about the steering lock, dont know about you but i like the idea of a key and steering lock cause if some one rips a few wires out the car is started?

If someone can get past the delocked handles, and the cat1 alarm and immobiliser and then work out the wires, then they are doing very well.

do you think thats hard to do?

i know how to get into your car and turn on your ignition and all i have to do is remove your interior bulb.....

however you wire it up there is a simple way to go about this

True, but the typical muppet TWOCER rather the clever ones will really struggle. At the end of the day. If someone is clever enough they will have it.

Anyways in place of the steering lock will be a disklock.
