High idle

by Tigerbuc2004 » Thu Jun 02, 2005 7:56 am

I had a dead battery this morning, had her jump started then the idle wouldnt drop below 2000rpm, is thgis the engine compensating for a low battery or has somethin happened as a result of the flat battery

Cheers

When u disconnect the battery the ecu settings also are erased, when u reconnect the battery the ecu needs to re-learn its settings and it should return to normal after a bit of use

sometimes jump starting can upset the car from power spikes, low power it just cant read the values it wants so it makes them up, if there isnt enough power being generated to charge the battery and to run the ecu it will turn the revs up, once the power levels are right it should run ok but you will have to sort the power problem out, is the battery stuffed or is the battery stuffed or flat from a dodgy alternator, the `lost` settings shouldnt make it idle that high its just trying to charge the battery without the engine stalling
