??? Fault Codes ???
Right then, I did the paperclip test on my V6 Motronic 2.8 as mentioned in a thread earlier today, and now I'm confused.
with engine off running I get:
12 12 12 93 93 93 17 17 17 31 31 31 12 12 12 I thought there were supposed to be sets of 12's between the different codes.
with engine on I get:
12 12 12 93 93 93 12 12 12
12 - Initiallisation.
93 - Hall Effect Switch (HES) Low Voltage
17 - Knock 2
31 - Crank Sensor
According to Mr Haynes Fault 93, the HES is in the Dizzy on 16v (and on Motronic 2.5). Where is it on a V6, is there one on a V6, and if not why am I getting that fault code, or (eek) is it the DIS.
I though the knock sensor would fail with motor running not stopped.
That obviously failed because the crank was still.
What is wrong with my baby?

Help, More Ecu Woes
To continue, I replaced the Camshaft HES, and now I have got 17 and 94 at all times.
17 Is one of the knock sensors, but which one?
94 Is the HES voltage high, which is the opposite of what led me to replace the Cam sensor.
Can someone please help explain whats going on?
Do I do the knock sensor next? But which one is it on a code 17?
HELP!!

Continued, checked the o/p voltage of the front and rear knock sensors, got 24-25mV on the front one at idle, and very oddly -14mV on the rear, and yes i did have the meter connected the right way round.
Are they supposed to be opposite polarity, or is this a surefire sign that the rear one is up the spout?

Found this from my local friendly 24/7 Vaux dealership......

Looks as though when the voltage drops out under 20mV it flags a code.

To finish this one off, this morning I swapped front and rear knock sensors around in the hope that the fault would transfer proving it was the rear. In the process, I reset the ECU, and guess what? The fault has now cleared, wooo hoo.
So, one last question. In the past when I have modded and reset an alfa 155 V6 ecu, when you re teach the ECU, we used to rag it around instead of doing it gently as the book says. This seemed to produce a more responsive map that was noticeable when you drove.
Will this work with the Cally?

Probably, all three of my V6's seem to love being pushed, the more i rag them the better they feel
Give it a go and see how it feels.

Guess what? Yep, the EML came on again on the way home from work this evening :frown: .
Clip tested it, 16 this time. See on the weekend I swapped the front and rear knock sensors over, and it all went away.
At least this time it has proved that its the knock sensor as it has transfered from rear (17) to front (16), and its a bl**dy site easier to change.
