Possible fuel pump relay?

by ash_pearce » Sat Apr 14, 2007 8:04 pm

car wont start first time, but it does the second time. its like its being starved of fuel in that it wants to pick up but cant.

there are no fault codes stored and ive replaced the fuel filter and had the injectors out (look clean) new plugs air filter etc...

just wondered if the fuel pump should prime the system when you put the ignition on, i had this prob on a corsa gsi, where there wasnt enough pressure behind the injectors as the fuel pump didnt come on till the engine was running. faulty relay was the prob.

any ideas??

thanks

did the em light flash when trying to start, i get this sometimes and have to take the key out of the ignition and retry. i think the pump does prime when ignition is on but you cant hear it, you can just feel the f.p. relay click when turning the key. check for voltage at the pump when turning over, unplug pump connection under drivers side rear wheel and connect a voltmeter or test bulb, should get a voltage when turning over, if not then fuel pump relay is buggered.
