hello all! injector and spark plug problem, help please :)
new on here so ill say hi all!!
recently got a calibra on a N plate from a lad i know, got it on the cheap because it had thrown a leg out so was just gunna be a simple motor swap, 2.0 ecotec engine in it.
after a search round the shed i found a 1.8 eco out of a vectra i once had which i know is a good runner and looks exactly the same as the 2.0 except for the sump which i swapped.
got it sat in using all the 2.0 manifolds, injectors, electrics and loom and everything, so everything exactly same as what was on the car except the mechanical parts, am i right in thinking that it should still runn as its only the bore size that is different but still the same throw on the crank?
the main problem is that when i switch the ignition on, all the lights light up on the dash and while they are lit the injectors and firing petrol into the bores and also the sparks are firing without the engine being wound over, when the dash lights go out and you goto start then the injectors and spark plugs cut out.
all the plugs and wires have been checked and everything seems in place, had the ecu checked and no fault with that either, didn't have this problem before the old motor was taken out, any ideas very helpful, cheers all

hello there, sounds like a problem with teh crank sensor or something like that.
having never had or seen either the 2 or 1.8 eco's i dont know im afraid what is or isn't different. but it sounds as though either the crank or cam or both sensors give out a different signal than the ecu is expecting. compare them both if you stil have them both, and count the teeth and look at the tooth size on the crank wheel for the sensor etc.
I suppose you could try disconnecting one sensor at a time and seing which if either stops the injectors fueling like that.. should be the crank.
Welcome aboard as well
lol. almost forgot that

is the pickup ring on the crank the same do you know? though is the sensors have been swapped i'd be supprised if it was that even if the ring was entirely different..
i'd still unplug the sensors one at a time see if any stop the injectors firing. are they just permanently open? or can you hear them pulsing?
it really does sound like the ecu thinkgs the engines turning. so crank sensors the area i'd be really going over with a fine combe to check its all as it should be.
