Reverse lights not working

hi all

Am just wondering if you lads could help me out
My reverse lights have stopped working and i have checked the bulbs and the fuses, and they all seem ok.
I think i have found the selector plug on the gear box (see pic). I unpluged this and it looked ok but i dont know if it works or not. would i just connect some wires on to the terminals to a bulb and test it that way??

That's the one. Short the wires together and see if the reverse lights come on, if so replace the switch.

i have been told to put a paperclip or similar in the wire part ,,,, if the lights light up then the plug is totaled
its suprising how much me and other road users need these lights
