by dave_se2 » Fri Oct 10, 2008 7:29 pm

Hi guys and gals. My ignition barrel has just gone t**s up! If i change just the barrel and key for a second hand one will i need to get the transponder key swapped over from my old key? Does it even have one? How do i tell? Please help as i need to go to scrappy to get one in the morning. Cheers, Dave.

i just recently had this problem, when you take the cowl off is there a black
box around the ingnition ( transponder)
if yes, you need to take the chip out your old key and put it in your new one.

it fits around the barrel where you put your key, with a square box under it, all one piece

My uncles cav was brought to me for a service, the ignition barrel nuked itself internally AGAIN. First time it happened I replaced the entire unit with a second hand one.

Its gone again! It means you cannot turn the key - it refused to turn. This means you cannot get the ignition into position 1 to slide the barrel out.

Power drill is your friend. I made him spend £60 and buy a brand new unit this time.

The immobiliser is a flat black ring thats hooked on the end of the ignition barrel casing. The ring has a box attached to the bottom of it.

If you have this you need to swop the chips over.

Raylentless stuck his key in my ignition barrel,
I'll skip right to the end in saying that there is now a corsa one there!
