rev counter gone mad

awrite guys wonderd if anyone could help when i was driving along today i noticed my rev counter was going up n down like i was doing 30mph and the rev counter was saying 7000/8000rpm but the engine revs and drives fine what could be causing this

Bad earth but cant remember which one though, try looking at the earths around the the throttle body/fuel rail

id say bad earth too as this was prob i had on a old ford ( thank god i saw the light

yeh, the two on the fuel rail securing bolts are the first to check..
