X20XEV (ecotech) Rev problem.

I have just purchased a 1996 ecotech calibra and it limits at 4500 rpm, the engine management light is not on and it doesnt rev erraticly like i have read other peoples do. Has anyone had this same problem?

Not yet, i just bought it yesturday and thought i'd ask around on here first before taking it to Vauxhall for a diag. I have read that it is common for the cam sensor too go on these ecotech's which only allows it to rev to 4500 rpm but usually the engine management light comes on and when it goes off it revs fine again but mine seems too be constant with no light so just thought i'd check if anyone has had the same problem first.

when you turn the key to the 1st position does the EML come on ? you dont need to take it to vauxhall to get a diag done you cam do a paper clip test yourself count the flashes then post up here and we'll tell you what the faults are

Yeh the EML light comes on the first click, then goes off once started. i'll have a look tonight, cheers.

as steve says do the paperclip test there may have been a code stored before you bought the car.
