Try making sure that the earth connections are in good condition and that the have good contacts i.e. not coroded. I replaced the battery to chassis lead with 4 gauge cable a couple of years back, cleaning the connectors up at the same time. When you re-attach them put some copper grease or something similar on to stop it corroding. Also clean up the +ve connection on the battery and put some grease over both terminals once re-connected. Last of all check the chassis to engine connection is in good condition, it's usually down on the gearbox on the right hand side of the engine bay when viewed from the front. Again clean the connections and once re-connected put some grease over them. Hope this helps!

Hi mate.. Vauxhalls do tend to turn quite slowly.. I've not had an 8v, but my 16v gte and 16vT cally are very slow in comparison to my mr2..

Does it sound like its getting slower? does it turn quick then slow and slow? as a battery drain would do??

Try it with a starter cable from the battery to the engine somewhere (lifting eye or similar) if it picks up then you need to look at replacing the engine mounts as they're broken/corroded or something.

If thats not it, then your looking at a dying starter(or wiring), XS compression, or blocked oilways etc..

But i expect its and earthing/starter issue

The idle is ECU controlled, you cant speed it up (you can, but theres no need). if its being dodgy then the idle control valve probably needs a bit of a cleanout, its the mini fuel pump sized thing feeding into the throttlw body below the throttle plate.

Sounds like slack in the cable for the throttle, not 100% certain on the 8v setup, but you can normally pull the cable shroud back a bit and pin it back in place engine end to take up some slack

The earth lead i think on that is kinda inline with the back of the battery, but right down low.if putting a jumplead across makes no difference it should be ok tho.
