Oxygen sensor (a.k.a. Lambda sensor ) is the thing you can see bolted into the manifold/downpipe if you look at the pipework just below the engine, should have a wire coming off it, it measures (apologies for the less than precise description) the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases so the ECU knows how the engine is running.
Fairly easy to spot on the 8V with the engine bay having a lot of space.
Nothing to do with the alarm tho mate, sounds like you were/are reading out the ECU codes, not the alarm codes (or at least looking them up on a list of ECU codes)

yeh my bad. got code 3,4 but cant find what that means. the bonnet sensor works, but the boot, doors and motion sensors dont appear to set the alarm off

also, when i lock the door, the light comes on for about 5secs, then goes out and does not flash there after, then on unlocking it does the same, comes on for about 5secs and then goes out. is this normal?

Have you checked the door lock mechanism on the inside. Part of mine had broke of and because of it my alarm wouldn`t work.
