dash lights
Re: dash lights
If you've put a 53A one and it should 66A then you will have problems.
Mark...........It's Red........It's a V6............It's an SE9!..............and She's bad.

Re: dash lights
Ok mark i will get a 66a rated battery and see if that helps,i drove it home tonite no problem n tested the terminals and still reading over 14v.maybe the wrong rating is causing the dimming of the lights.

Re: dash lights
Mate the battery is for just starting the engine
the alternator runs the electrics when the engine
is running.I would check out the alternator and
its connections

Re: dash lights
Baz first thing to do is a load test on the alternator.
Run the engine, you say you have 14+V across the terminals?
Then, turn all the lights on, heated seats, demister, blowers etc
Then check again, see how much it's dropped.
Let us know what you get.

Re: dash lights
Andy did that without and with electrics lights etc,and it slightly dropped but still over 12 and under 14v.im gonna go with marks theory atm and see if that makes a difference as the battery obviously isnt the correct rated one especially with full load ,i did look and on my old battery was nearly 600a and the new one is 470 with a 53ah as to a 66ah

Re: dash lights
With all the electrics on the battery should be reading 14.1 - 14.7.
Get the alternator checked.

Re: dash lights
put it this way Baz i have a battery out of a corsa b in mine and have done for nearly two years now and i've never had any of the the symptoms your describing, i would say it would be the same rating as your currant battery.
so like Andy and the rest have said get your alternator checked

Re: dash lights
your needing to go and get the gudgel valve looked at, I would say its blocked and causing the electrics to back flow Rather than go in a residual current round the engine
Re: dash lights
Im gona take it to somewhere for a free check nextweek,as im not sure how i can test it ,but we went out earlier to replace a bulb and started car ,put lights on and it is sayiing nearly 16volts on the gauge so it must be charging ok.

Re: dash lights
Best to get a meter on the battery turn on light heater fan ect and see what the voltage does when you rev the car, if the voltage drops then goes up when you rev the car the alt is fine, if it dosnt it's F****d, if you don't have a meter jus watch you interia light see if it brightness when you rev the car
