Changing v6 ecu

by fatboy_v6 » Wed May 25, 2005 6:10 pm

Ok it looks like i've gotta change my ecu. I had a problem with the car last summer, when it gets hot i get the engine management light up on the dash. I had it diagnosed last year and vaux said it was either the air mass meter or the ecu. I changed the amm a couple of days ago but the problem has reoccured. Does anyone know how to change the ecu? I can probably get one from a dismantler and i just wondered how easy they were to change?

id read the fault codes for yourself, vx have a thing about replacing every expensive part before the low cost bits
my eml was flickering occasionaly on the turbo, vx wanted to fit a new ecu as its a `common fault on cars this old`, i read the codes and the lambda was the fault.

Ok i've just done the paper clip test and it's revealed 2 faults, the first is code 16 which is knock sensor 1 and the second is 31 engine rpm signal (crankshaft sensor). I've got no idea what either of these mean any help would be most appreciated. Is it possible for me to change them or does it need to go to a garage and if it did how much should it cost?
Cheers.

the crank sensor should be listed if the engine is not running when you read the codes.
the knock sensor listens to your engine and alters the timing, they give faults usualy because the wires are dammaged allowing interfierence to be picked up also if they have come loose is another fault, it just bolts onto the engine somewere its on the back of the turbo but i dont know were on the V6 and i presume there amy be one on each side?
its not usualy difficult to change one , just always awkward as there somewere stupid

TC 31 will always be flagged if you do the test without the engine running.

As for knock sensor 1 look on topbuzz's site........
I used to own this Calibra...
