Battery Light on with no keys??

by Ned Wobmit » Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:17 pm

Help. Just had the Altenator replaced last week. Took the car for a spin yesterday and the battery light came on when I turned off the ignition. Managed to jump start it and the voltmeter inthe car said 13v. Had battery tested it showed 9.5v under load. Now battery light on permanently on when keys out but off when keys in. EM lamp flashes when I try and start it, but then 1 in 10 times it will start?

God I'm confused!!!

Take it back to the garage if I were you, it does still indicate a problem with the alternator. Did they fit you a new one or just recondition it?

Dunno but I would hazard a guess at recon cos the whole job cost £130.

Do the Vauxhall batteries have a little indicator window on them to say whether the battery is healthy or not? I had one on my last car that showed a bright green blob in the window when the battery was good and it went black if the battery was knackered?

I seem to remember paying about £55 to get mine reconditioned, afterwards I found out that a new one is only about £80. All together I paid about £125 so you're about right once the removal and refitting costs are included.

As they tested it, diagnosed it as faulty and carried out the work then you should really get them to sort it as it seems that they either mis-diagnosed it or refitted it incorrectly.

This means the alternator diode pack has blown. (common problem on V6s... )
Take it back and shout loudly at them!

Agreed, definately the alternator. Recently replaced mine for the exact same fault. Take it back to them.
