Alternator Gone

by Robert_Dale » Thu Aug 25, 2005 11:47 am

Guys and gals my alternator has gone

no battery light on when i start the engine and then the battery light comes on once engine is started and it then stays on.

volt meter reads 0v and the rev counter and fuel/temp guages read nothing, they don't move.

Is this defo the alternator, i think it was on its way out previous as when i revved the batt light started lighting up!!!

RARRRRRRRRRR

Anyone got an alternator for a 16v Redtop L Reg?

Could be one of two things;
1. Someone has messed about with your wiring, reversed the wires going to your battery light, and cut the wires going to your rev counter, fuel/temp and volt gauge.
2. Your alternator is dead.

I think its number 1.

A blown fuse wouldn,t cause your battery light to stay on or make your volt gauge show 0v.

cheater when you replaced the amp was it all ok again??

i thought i was strange the rev counter etc would all stop

will give it a go

this would explain why my volt meters not working also

Yeah, i just replaced it with another 20amp fuse, and put everything back on

When it blew, my speedo was stuck on 55mph, rev counter didnt work, no oil presure gauge, no volt gauge, no petrol or temp gauge either, or radio

Just had a solid battery red light on on me dash. As soon as i changed the fuse, all was fine its worth a check.

Cheater2K maybe right. Its cheaper to change a 20 amp fuse than fork out for a new alternator. Are you sure no-ones been messing with your wiring?

deffo cheaper to check, cos even puttin a new alturnator on youd have the same problem if its the fuse, lol
