I really should have done a how to on this as it crops up so many times. Ask your local motorist shop which alarms they have in stock that have remote locking included. Buy one. Fit the various wires to the lights, battery (or fusebox) the earth etc. You will have 2 wires spare for remote lock and unlock. The central locking interface is found behind the trim in the footwell on the drivers side, 2 treenail clips to remove it. The interface is held on by a couple of screws and a bracket. Take a good look at it before you remove it. The terminals at the end nearest the door are the 2 used. The one at the front is lock and the one at the rear is unlock IIRC. Test using a piece of wire and touching it to the door pin switch. One will do nothing, the other will open the door. When its unlocks touch the wire to the other and it will lock. Once you know which is which connect by soldering or worst case scotchlock. Try your remote with the door ajar (just in case!!) The alarm should arm and the door will lock. Alarms like this start around £50 for a basic Microscan (edited cos i'm fik) alarm and go up with the more they include. The VX one is what most people go for, but the fitting of it to the central locking interface will be the same across the board.
Hope this helps. I will try to get time to do a full how to with pix if my guv'nor cuts my hours to a mere 42 per week !!!!

see the bit about the interface, wire it to that. it WONT deadlock the car and it WONT set the factory fit alarm either. Its purely a locking interface.

oh...and Microscan is the make i meant but i'm fik when it comes to remembering brand names...

Buy Mercedes-Benz, mention me and get me rich quick... lol.

ok thinking of putting it in the cavalier now as that has no deadlocks or alarm, is the central locking interface in the same place, if so, what does it look like because i have had a poke around and there are loads of boxes and plugs and wires in that area

Ok both cars same

Remove glove box 4 screws

Loom coming out of passenger door has all you want
Thick Red = 12 v
Thick Brown = neg
Brown/Red = Lock Wire
Brown/White = Unlock Wire

Configure Microcrap to neg locking and hey presto your done
Sorry no pictures

I just took the remote locking out a vectra cdi i think it was.....remote keyfob (wich has a key on it so you can go to vuax and get a blank and have it cut) then was literally a case of unplug vectra remote locking box with matching key then replace normal calibra central locking box with vectra one (drivers foot well) and he presto.....works a charm

ok wired it in, the main lights flash not side lights but makes no difference. just wondering, if i wired a buzzer/speaker into the same wire as the lights would it make a noise aswell as flash or would i have to have an extremly loud speaker?

If you have the Micrascan system then the alarm should "chirp" when you set it and flash the lights. One chirp, one flash for lock and arm, 2 chirps and 3 flashes for unlock, 3 chirps and 3 flashes for unlock with an activation on the alarm. The led should stay solid for 20 seconds on arm then pulse at 1 second intervals and on activation the alarm cycles thru all the lovely different sirens and the led goes potty.
Think that covers it
