Doors delocked without an alarm fob!

by slugger_2003 » Wed May 31, 2006 6:32 pm

Hi all. My car was delocked by the previous owner but they didn't give me an alarm phob. I tried locking it via the lock on the boot but it only works the boot lock so does this mean the boot lock has been disconnected from the central locking? How do I go about correcting this?
The car has a CAT 1 piranha(spelling?) alarm and I have phoned round my local electrics and alarm companies who all say they can't help me get a replacement phob. What has basically been suggested to me is that I should get a new alarm fitted but they would say that wouldn't they!
Basically this means I can't lock my car so I am rather un-willing to leave it anywhere.
What sort of job would be involved in removing the current alarm and fitting another one? Any guides anywhere? Any brands to stay away from or any reccomended?

Thanks,

Matt

You must be able to get a new fob instead of fitting a whole new alarm? Have you tried contacting Pirahna directly, they should be able to supply a replacement fob.

I had a quick look on the internet and Pirahna are now out of business.
To be able to use another fob for the alarm apparently I need a 5 digit code which came with the alarm when it was new. Well that wasn't given to me cuz it was fitted when I bought the car. Anyone know of a way round this or have any suggestions? Anyone know how to reconnect the boot to the central locking because at least then I could have that as a temporary security measure. It's a bit rubbish having the car but not really being able to use it.

Any comments appreciated,

Matt

ud be best off just getting someone to fit one for u. they are a balls to fit if you dont know what your at and if u **** it up ull only spend ages doing your head in trying to figure out what to do. id suggest go for the best u can buy. clifford, toad etc. dont bother with the cheap ones from ebay. most guys wont fit stuff u buy elsewhere.
as far as spare fobs go, they are tough to source alright. had the same problem earlier this year myself. eventually found d one i was looking for on ebay.
mine doesnt lock either from the boot. in fairness wouldnt make much sense for anyone other than your situation, locking your boot and then your car locks up also. how did the previous owner lock the car if they had no fob?

I have no idea. The guy that sold it to me (through ebay) said it was his son's car that he was selling it for. I asked how he locked it and he just said it was kept in a locked garage and that he didn't use the car much, hence why it was sold to me. I believe that because in about 2 years the car only covered roughly 6k miles. I've covered about 1/10 of that in this car already in less than a week! He must have used it to cover 6k but can't have been used regularly really?
There is a guy who sells Cobra Thatcham alarms on ebay and the guy who charges £24+vat an hour said if I sent him the wiring diagram he would give me a quote and would fit it, he didn't seem to care what make it was etc and he has a really good rep.
So I would be advised to avoid makes like Unistar and Sigma?

well ive a sigma one on mine and its fine, in that it hasnt been stolen or anything (touch wood). dont think ud go far wrong wit a cobra alarm professionally fitted. shouldnt take a professional much more than 2 or 3 hours to do. id personally ask for a fixed quotation for fitting it

Hi mate

Yes Pirahna well out of business by the way if it was cat one do you have an overide tag as it hass passive immobilisation

also if you can find control box the code will be there and you will be able to get new remote from Tech-tronics in manchester

Overide tag? What's that? So answer to that, is probably going to be no. Presume the control box is the alarm unit itself? Just follow the wires from the sensor on the inside of the car and I should find the control box?

hiya mate.
not sure is this will help but i`ve just fitted a vauxhall remote locking kit it also shuts the windows and turns the OE alarm on. got it trade price for £55 i think, its got all the wiring plans and step by step how to. i know its not answered your Q but its handy to know if the other options work out to dear.

The boot lock is not meant to operate the central locking, its always been independant, find the alarm control box in the passenger footwell behind the plastic cover and the code you'll need will be written on it, should cost you no more than £25 for a new fob
