Do I need a new motor?

by slugger_2003 » Sat Jul 22, 2006 11:21 pm

My car doesn't lock via a remote. It doesn't lock at all! Except now for the boot if u lock it manually but the car has delocked handles so basically as it stands I'm scuppered...juz hav to sit outside my house with the shotgun.

Just to clarify: The boot locks if the lock is set in the vertical position, if it is in the horizontal position it is open. Under both circumstances the front doors remain unlocked.

So far it sounds like I need a new motor for the rear boot lock then? Is it a different item from the locking mechanism? Like if I got another motor, would I need to use a different key than what I used for the ignition or does it connect to the lock via a series of wires or.....?

Any help or advice appreciated

sounds like your central locking relay might not be working...drivers kick plate large Gray relay

central locking won't work from the boot lock..IE: it wont lock or unlock any of the other doors

its a different locking solenoid in the boot but you wont need another key

Any help or advice appreciated

Drivers kick plate = ?
How do I get it so that the central locking from the boot locks the doors too?
Yes it does lock/unlock when in the car. When I sat inside and locked it, my mum went round the car and tried both doors and the boot, both doors AND the boot were locked.
What does this all indicate?
Can I connect the boot to the C/L so that when I lock the boot it locks the doors aswell?
In short, when locking the car from the inside the whole car locks INCLUDING the boot but when locking from the boot, only the boot locks.

I don't have the remote fob for it. I have no remote fob at all.

so it has de-locked handles without a remote fob, is that what you're saying, well if that is the case it would be better getting a remote fob / alarm thing installed rather than trying to lock the doors etc from the boot, what did the guy who sold it to you say about it, seems very weird you have de-locked handles without a remote fob, but i now see why you are asking the questions about the boot lock,

basically the only way to do it would be to get the remote central locking done with a remote fob or remove the de-locked handles and replace with the standard ones with locking barrel, this would help by when u locked / unlocked drivers side door then it would do the whole central locking, or maybe just replace drivers door one with a standard one, thats the only way that i can see around the problem

sorry i meant to reply to you about this over the weekend but it slipped my mind. just change your alarm. (i had thought you just wanted your boot to lock when u pipped the fob, didnt realise that was how u wanted to lock the car.) still cant believe you bought a car without a means to lock it
if you can get the same model as u have and all it means is unplugging the wires from the existing control box and plugging the new one in.

Getting an alarm will cost about £300 which really isn't worth it seeing as I'm selling the car. Any idea where I could get a remote fob from? Why would locking the whole car from the boot be a bad idea?
Guy who sold it to me said he was selling it for his son. Apparently it has a cat 1 pirahna alarm (see my earlier posts). It has the stickers on the windows n a tech minded mate told me it has an aftermarket siren on the car i.e. the siren for the alarm.
Comments and ideas appreciated.
Keep 'em coming!

Pirahna have went out of business so you can't get hold of their alarms anymore unless it was second hand out another car?

no sorry they dont stock that type. is that the exact spelling for the company name? also is there a model number for the alarm type. there also is a universal remote fob u can get which learn the codes but i still think u need an existing fob to train it.

by the way what kind of alarm wud u be buying for 300 notes. ud easily get one cheaper than that. 50 or 60 quid wud get u a half decent one on ebay without any bother and more than likely if the connectors couldnt be swapped easily, then u could just join to the wires.

obviously though as cozy said u could also just put a set of locked handles back on

"Pirahna" is the spelling
I don't have a clue what the alarm type is. It surely can't be a thatcham cat1 as they have built in immobilisers, right? Well I don't disarm an immobiliser or anything so either the alarm/imobiliser has been disconnected/removed or the guy just put on stickers....
Was gonna pay £300 for a cat1 Cobra alarm fitted.
I have no idea about electrics..hardly know anything about cars...I wouldn't wanna blow the fuse's....
I do have the original handles which the guy gave to me. The problem is, I don't have the barrel for the key to go into for locking the car. Will the barrel be sitting inside the door?
