by ashleywood.ash » Fri Sep 01, 2006 12:41 am

i want to upgrade to a trip computer. i currently have the digi clock and temp gauge (which doesnt work as usual)
i want a trip computer but it is hard to find one with swithch and plug, is there anything else i can use as finding a scrappy with a turbo or gsi in to get the swith and plug is unlikely better yet is the wiring already in to convert in a cally 8 valve. i have a little round button behing my elec windows on the centre console and not sure what this does?? the round button is an over-ride for the windows to stop them from stopping if they are sticky or sommits in the way

you'll be fine mate, the yellow plug'll be tucked away in a awkward place.it's normally tied to the loom by the heater controls...
Both of our 8v j plate calibras have got the yellow plug,so no reason why yours won't..

To find the elusive yellow plug, its behind the stereo/heater controls as previously stated, but the easiest way to get to it is to remove the glove box. To do this; take out the non slip mat from the odments tray above the box, pop out the two square plastic plates on either side of the inside of the odments tray. Now you can pull the plastic fascia/surround away, then its just a case of removing the four screws (2 behind the fascia youve just removed, and the other two are located by opening the glove box, should be near the bottom) then just slide the whole thing out. Remembering to disconnect the glove box light connection. Now you have a nice big new hole in which to find and unclip the yellow connector and feed it to the correct aperture.

Hope this helps.

It might just need the runner aligned a little, I think they move over time with the constant banging of the door.
There are two little plastic round capson the edge of the door, prise them out and there is a bolt behind each one, loosen them slightly and you can adjust the tile of the runner so it doesn't bang/catch at the top.
Don't undo the bolts too far tho otherwise....plonk, inside the door and you'll likely need to take the door trim off to retrieve it/them. (not hard to do, but takes more time)

Yeah the rear runner/guide dictates how far over the window shuts, it should be adjusted so as when the window is fully up, it doesnt foul the weather strip, although after having the whole window and mechanism out i didnt have a problem with the window banging or refusing to go up beacause of this. The only problem i had was one of the arms catching on the opposite one on the way up about mid way.
