Sensor or no sensor that is the question!!!

Hi

Can anyone tell me how the alternator cooling fan works as I have just fitted a new one and dont want to be chasing anymore faults so basically is their a sensor on the engine that tells it to kick in when the engine is turned off or does the ECU tell it to turn on when the engine is turned off?

Thanks for that! just been looking at the wiring diagram it all runs of a relay same one as the rad fan and I know that works!
