battery light

Any electrical issues

by Molecule » Wed Jul 25, 2007 3:58 pm

Just over a week ago my battery light came on, it stays on for hours, it goes off, it flashes, changes color intensity with the speed of the engine and even stays on when the ignition key is out. I also get a mad seat belt light, it goes on and off, no matter wheather I am strapped in or not. Also noticed ( for only a week ) a strange whining during acceleration, kind of noise you would get through the speaker of a car with a dodgy sound system.
any ideas? will it blow..?
thanks

Thanks, would also like to know if jump starting other cars could have caused it to go- or the diode inside it - as I must have jump started 4 cars in the past 3 months.
thanks

Been trying to get the alternator off. Got the bolts off the top 2 mounts, I am struggling with the bottom mount. There is a long bolt that goes through the bottom 2 mounts, I have undone it and it slide towards the chassis of the car and it seems it does not goes far enough to get the alternator out. How is done?
Thanks

not sure if it is different, should be easy....
the alternator rocks freely, just like a tooth about to come out, but it seems it is still rotating around the bolt.
Tried to pull the alternator out, hammering it upwards, no way, hammering it down, no way

You'll have to remove the whole mounting bracket rather than undo the long bolts, as you've found, they don't all come out :)

Remove the bolts from this bracket, they're a bit awkward but you can get to them from the top with a bit of patience :)
