Battery

Any electrical issues

Battery

by Robs-se » Tue Nov 27, 2007 3:26 pm

I have one of these GO type batteries from Vaux. The little indicator thing is showing black instead of green. I take it it needs charged or my alternator is slowly failing. I do have a problem with a badly slipping Auxillery belt at the moment so think this could contribute some what.

Have had no electrical problems as yet and just finding time to change the belt. The horrible high pitched whine at start up is getting embarrassing.

Get the belt sorted first, then go to a garage to check battery/alternator.

a ribbed belt slipping!!! must be very very slack for one of those to slip ..and its an auto tensioner on the Se2 as well so something not right, might be a bearing on the alternator rather than a belt making the noise

hi there mate the go batteries are made by the same company who makes the vauxhall branded ones on the same production line its just that they have the slightly different branding and they come with the same guarantee as the vauxhall branded one

Belt has started to show some little cracks all around so its maybe stretched too much. Replacing tomorrow if weather holds out. Nothing worse then lying on the wet floor under a car, particularly at my age :(

The battery started to fail a few days back, warning lights started to glow slightly whilst on the M1 in rush hour traffic so managed to get home just.
Replaced the alternator yesterday, bugg*r getting it out the car without re-positioning hoses, wiring, finger nails, skin.
New one in place, started up and still high pitched squealing, sounds as if it could now be power steering pump as the squealing also occurs when turning the steering to full lock and slightly apparent on acceleration.

Checked fluid levels in resevoir and looks ok, steering not getting heavy so wandering if it is just the pulley wheel. Are there any checks that can be done on the pump to see if it has failed bearings?

Take the belt off and check for any play in the pulley?
