**CALIBRA TURBO ELECTRICS** ***URGENT HELP REQUIRED!!***
Rite!! I just got my turbo back from the bodyshop having my full GM Sportstyle/Irmscher kit fitted
.....
BUT!! As soon as i got it back, the wire from the siren under the scuttle panel must have chaffed thru and shorted out. This completely fried the siren wire.
The big problem starts here: this fried wire enters the main loom to the drivers side in front of the bulkhead. And has thus damaged that loom. This loom goes into the cabin and joins onto the interior dash loom.
I've had my trusted auto-spark look at it and he says the whole thing wants replacing. I took the charred remains of the looms ID tag to vauxhall and they quated me £950 WITHOUT VAT!! Needless to say, I left chuckling to myself!!
So now i dont know what to do?? I cant abandon the calibra, cos its jus too clean!!
Would it be possible to replace the looms with those found in a Redtop C20XE Calibra / Cavalier GSi?? Basically the same engine?? (minus the turbo!)
The only interior extras that may/would be powered via these looms are the trip computer and check control lights.
So! To re-cap, i have damaged; 1) engine loom 2) dash loom.
Vehicle Details:
Calibra Turbo 4x4 C20LET
1996 reg. N*** BOJ.
Your urgent help/parts would be incredibly appreciated!!

cant be that damaged, if it was me would simply cut the bad section out and solder in new wire

Put it this way: The wire leading to the siren hasn't jus burnt and melted the insulation...its COMPLETELY disintegrated!! Fell apart in a few pieces when i touched it!! And its that wire that runs right the way thru both engine and dash looms. :s
The window wipers at least are effected (they go nuts when i touch the battery back on). The engine does crank over, but naturally, the battery was only connected for a matter of seconds when the autospark was checkin the damage..

its still with the sparky. but thers not much to see untill i get it back 2moz. figured im jus gonna pull the dash out and take the looms out.
Does anyone know if i can use the looms off a C20XE Calibra / Cavalier with the equivalent equipment?? Guages, check control etc...??

unless the car went totally on fire then at some point the wires will be whole and undamaged. Find that point, cut out bad section and then just match the wires with new sections soldered in. Did this myself and its not that hard ...should imagine with a auto electrician it would be even easier as they can test which circuits are damaged
a C20Xe loom for the dash will be the same,,engine loom I would imagine being different as wont have the connections for the turbo components
changing the engine loom is fairly easy as it just goes to the ECU...dash loom is a lot harder
must have had this siren mounted round about the battery area, as Engine loom goes in the drivers side, dash loom in behind the glove box...only place they get close is about there

Vauxhall said "as this calibra was a later edition, a siren was mounted in the scuttle panel." Earlier models had nothing ther. The wire looks like it was just 'slaved in', but not properly protected or secured down. Which has allowed it to chaff away on join in the metal panels during the 13years that its been on the road!! Its jus my bad luck that it happened to break thru now!!
Further investigation looks like my engine loom is repairable. It still turns over and runs. (but will need to be looked at and protected further more)
But the interior dash loom is shot!! I've found a cavalier GSi's as suitable donar!!!
Unless anyone has a spare dash loom (inc fusebox) lying around??
Wish me luck guys, once i post the pics of it, you'll understand why i'm so detirmined to rescue him!! (BOJ)
