Fitted a Vauxhall OE DID digi clock/outside temp display yesterday, to replace the standard analogue clock in my 91 J plate Cally.

Very easy to fit, a straight swap using the same wires.

Then last night, I noticed that the heater panel lights were not on, the heater controls like the demist/legs/floor and speed settings lights were on ok, it is just the top sliding knobs for the red and blue temp setting part that isn't lit up.

I cant think of why the fitting of the DID affected this, if it even has, but what I cant figure out is what fuse covers these lights, so I can check that first......or is it a case if the fuse had gone, the whole heater panel would be unlit?

Cheers.

Kinda wondered if it was something I had done or nudged loose whilst fitting the DID.

I've read a few other threads about how much of a pain these bulbs are to replace!!

What type of bulb is it? The kind of thing I'd get at say......Halfords, or is it a silly wee dealer only type?

Thanks m8.

The bulb in the old clock was still working so if need be, I'll use that. 8)

It's not too much of a job, just a bit fiddly getting the bulb holder back in. Mine took about half an hour.

HI, getting back to the start of the thread > RED CALIBRA, did the temp. display work as soon as you plugged the unit in? No-one answered when I asked if it would fit straight in, but if it wires in the same on yours then hey, i'll go find one too. Just wanted to know if the temp. would work.

Jayboy - I dont know about upgrading TO a DID, but if the plugs there, then i think it would go straight in. You might need to check for the temp sensor tho, which I believe is at the bottom nearside corner of the front bumper...

If your looking for a unit, why not check in the for sale section!

Jayboy.......yes, connected up the three wires to the old clock wires and the temp readout worked straight from the start.

However, I do have the temp sensor, which came with the DID, although its simply sitting at the back of the unit and not, obviously, displaying accurate info. There is a way to connect it up via the loom in the engine compartment, and locate the sensor in its correct place, in the front passenger side bumper lower, which I've read about online, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Just be aware, that not all Cally's have the sensor to begin with, in the right place, and by the same token, some of the DID's I've seen for sale, especially on eBay where I got mine, do not come with the temp sensor, I was lucky my one did, and the seller stated as much in his advert. They aren't very expensive anyway, get one from a scrappy for a few quid, I would think.

On mine i have neither the sliding temp light up, or the other bits speed setting etc. Is there more than 1 bulb that provides illumination in this panel????

I'm sure there's more than one bulb in there, in the entire heater panel. Hopefully someone else more "savvy" can verify this.
