RE: Opening bonnet?????
Hi,
Put my Passenger side window down last night and now it won't come back up!!! When you press the switch theres no noise, but when you click to go down you can here the motor click (like it should do). Any Ideas???
More importantly, How on Earth can I manually push the window back up? I've got all the doorcard off and it physically won't budge!! I really worried as its winter and the car is outside, so I need to get it up ASAP
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Have a go swapping the switches over and see if it works, could be that the contacts on the switch need cleaning.

RE: I got even more snow.......
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->this happened with my last calibra - found it closed using the closure relay in the door locks instead of the switch.... just to get you out of a hole, perhaps.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Could you explain a bit more please? Not to sure what you mean....
I've tried swopping the switches over, but there different pins and won't work if I try to plug them in.
Cheers Mac, i'll let you know next week if I need anything.
Thanks for the help guys.

Recomendations for decent Shocks?
He means where you lock the door using the key, but keep the key held at 45 degrees to vertical for a couple of seconds, it should wind the windows up. If it is the switch that's failed as opposed to the underlying circuitry, that should get around the problem for now.

Hi,
I've just been out and tried what you said (about holding the key at 45 degree) and it worked..... But only for the Driverside.... Not the broken Passenger side. Does this mean the switches are ok? and its something either in the door or wiring before the door?
Anymore suggestions?
Thanks again for your help.

I reckon so, as the 45 degree thing should do both (indeed, on my old Cav GSi, it used to do all four). So yeah I reckon your switches may be OK, and it may be something else. Does anything else in that door work (central locking, speakers etc.) as I have known the wiring loom to get a bit funny where it enters the door.
Try opening the door and giving the bunch of cables that go across from the front of the car into the door a good wiggle, just in case it's a dodgy connection. Failing that, I'm pretty sure there's a relay for each window (because if you listen quietly, when you one-touch the other window up, about a second after it gets to the top, you'll hear a small click) so that could well be the problem, but I don't know where the relay is physically located
If there are seperate relays, you should then be able to temporarily swap them over, just so you can get the damn window up
As a final note, I assume you've checked the relevant fuse(s), though IIRC there's only one fuse for both windows, so I suspect that's not the issue.

RE: Is this legal?
Yeah checked the fuse, and everything else in the door (speakers, central locking) work... but i'll give the wires a wiggle in a bit.
Not sure where the relays are (anyone?)
When I press the button to wind them down (even though its fully down), you can here a click from where the motor is.... But when you press the button to roll them back up, theres no noise what so ever????
Argghhh!!! Its SOoo frustrating as i've had to put the car in a mates Barn as I can't use it.
Cheers for your help so far though.

If you take off the door skins and remove the bass speaker, you should be able to unplug the connector on the back of the winder controller. If you can do this, you can then remove the controller board from the winder assembly by using a t.10 torx bit and a small ratchet. Swap the controller unit from good side to bad side and see if that clears the fault. If it does, I've a "how-to" for fixing the controller.
