don't know off top of my head what rating mine is,but it's a bull power one, certainly a lot stronger than the halfords or vaux batteries i've had.

i dunno what make this battery is, its fine now no probs today, i think the vx ones look smart though. the battery i had in my punto used to run flat all the time, but that was running amps subs etc, dont want that problem again.

it is not just the battery you would need to consider upgrading, the alternator might not be putting out enough to keep up with the drain from the battery

so what you are saying fraz is that if i upgrade to a turbo battery i also need the alternator as well?. at the moment going by the voltage gauge it reads 14-14.5v when the engine is running, 12 when its not, when it wouldn't start it read around 10/11 volts, i'd say this means the alternator is fine at the moment, but i'd just run the battery down. it will probabley be o.k. but i'm worryed about fitting the ice alarms etc any suggestions.

as i said i got a bull power battery,BUT if i don't run the car every day the battery goes down to like 10.3 volts and the car won't start.probably because of the amount of i.c.e. in the car,but more likely than not it's the clifford alarm that drains it,with all it's sensors etc.

car stereos do not work on 12v, they work on 14.5v

think about it.......a big batterey will make no diffrence, you need a bigger alternator!

just get a 120 amp version

I've got the biggest battery I could fit in my V6 - it's one of the Vauxhall GO batteries - and with the trade club discount they're pretty reasonable.

I also have a 100A alternator at the moment and it's coping fine. I have a spare 120A unit in the garage just in case I need it

I'll find out the rating of the battery for you...

There appears to be some confusion over the batteries role in this thread.

The battery is only there to store an electrical charge big enough to start the car, and provide support for the alternator when current draw exceeds the alternators output.

When the engine is running, the electrics should run off the alternator.

Upgrading to a higher amp battery will help but ultimately you'd be better off looking at doing both the alternator and the battery.

What is a cost of an alternator as I think mine went today. Set off from work lights on but noticed the dasboard lights were very dimm. Then about 200 yards up the road the red battery light came on the dashboard. I also seem to hear a whrrring type noise at low revs? Dont know if this is normal as I normaly have my stereo on so dont hear what the engine sounds like.

With no lights on and driving the volt meter read 13 the one next to tweleve I am pressuming it goes up in 1's?

Then when I put headlights on, stereo, heating, rear heated windscreen, heated seats etc it dropped to just below 11.

Didnt seem any different to drive though. So would this be an alternator? plus how much do they cost?

I just changed my alternator on the V6. Got a 100A from the breakers for £25 and it works fine. May be a bit of a fiddle to get it through the space thats left around the back of the engine though.
