Tracking

by chas27 » Fri Sep 02, 2005 4:44 pm

Finally got around to replacing my track rod ends.
So I shoots off to get the tracking done and gets told "sorry mate cant do Calibra cos it needs weighting down".
Apparently they tell me that it needs weighting down at the front and they dont have any weights. It the same with Porsche and Mercedes.

After some discussion they did the tracking but wouldnt guarantee the work and they didnt charge me neither.Good lads.

Anyway I was wondering has anyone else heard this cos its a complete mystery to me.

Clint eastwood springs to mind here . Take it to some where that has 4 wheel laser tracking and you wont be dissapointed (as long as the operater knows what he is doing)

Actually it's sort of true. I had my tracking done (4 wheel computer thing) and after it was all adjusted I noticed that the front drivers side was slightly out. It was still in the green but not dead centre like the other 3 wheels. I asked about this and the technician said sit in the car. I did. He then pointed at the screen which showed the drivers wheel now dead centre just like the other 3! Apartently the suspension been set up to take the drivers weight into consideration, as most of the time you won't have any passengers.

Dont know if its same thing but some have a weight on the torsion bar which is mentioned in the Haynes. Not a clue why though
