Are there any bigger head-ed handbrake pins?

Any issues relating to suspension, steering and brakes.

Are there any bigger head-ed handbrake pins?

by jonnyboy » Wed Sep 07, 2005 6:09 pm

The hole on the hub where one of the handbrake pins goes through has rusted, so that the head of the screwy pin pulls through the hub.

Is there any where I can buy some bigger headed pins? Or anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks.

Vauxhall no longer supply the type of shoe retaing pin that was fitted on the Calibra...main reason was when they took the drum off they had to keep fixing the backplates.

Did mine last year and ripped the backplate where the pin located, What I did was just fit normal pins that came with the shoes (or you can buy the springs and pins from Halfords)

only problem is the one pin as you can't get the pin in where the ABS hub is. But if you slacken the top two hub bolts you can bend the backlate down enough and a slight bend on the pin you can get it through from the back, just bend the plate back ..hub bolts back on and then your done ...and you never have the same problem again

Also depending how how big your hole is (treat it if you can) Some have used a washer with the hole enlarge to a slit to allow the pin end through.
Some have even tack welded it to the plate.
Simple but effective

Thanks guys!

I've tried the Vauxhall pins but they slip through Fraz so I'm gonna do Wills has said and do the washer thing. I was thinking about that idea today aswell.
