brake hose cylinder?????

just changed my rear brake hoses for the goodridge ones. question is do i need that cylinder for something? the new hoses fit but only just so it makes me think that part may be supposed to be kept but ill be damned it i can get the nut to open if so. if i do need that part, if anyone could put an arrow on the pick showing how much i should keep that would be great(the big black cylinder at the end, u can just about see the nut, roughly a 16 or 17mm)

soak them in gunk overnight should release
