track rod ends

how should they be???

with the steering straight, looking through the wheel,
one side is level to the bracket that comes fom the strut, the other side is twisted over so one side almost touches the bracket from the strut
I take it there suposed to be the same both sides, level, not one level one not
Ive had awfull eeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk sound when steering from the side its `wonky` on, so i think im going to change them

are they diferent types for different model callys or are they all the same, do they come with the bolt, are the cheapo motorfactor type ok or should i get vaux ones?

I usually pickup motor factor stuff these days, most of it is pretty good stuff, lasts a bit less maybe but costs a considerable ammount less so who cares. don't really understand your description... but while they do have a bit of an offset if i recall they're both identical in shape too i thought. so sounds like you've bent one.

Il get the ones from the end of the road then!

Its difficult to explain whats wrong (or might be wrong) with them!, no pics as my cameras at work
Its the actual balljoint part of the trackrod end, on one side the balljoint with the bolt sticking through the bit on the strut, the bolt has to be straight (as its bolted in), you can move the top as its a ball joint but it returns to `level` sort of 90 degrees to the bolt `horizontal`
, on the other side i can lever it hard and it wont leave 45 degrees to the bolt, the ball joint part seems not to move so its jammed at 45 degrees with the bit that bolts onto the bar wedged into the bit on the strut, sort of 45 degrees to the bolt

I can still turn side to side but the two are rubbing together most of the time but when pushed hard they dont quite touch, but it still goes eeeeeeeeek when turning

so i take it the ball joint has siezed some how inside

ahhh. kinda understand.. i think lol. sounds goosed yes... could just break the joint if you have a splitter, should be able to move it by hand easy all round the balljoint..
think the last factor ones i bought cost me £7.50 lol. probably gone up a bit now as that was a while ago.

I bought some ones from a motor factors. But they would not screw on far enough to track it up straight. So be carefull which you get.

got them today 12.50 for the pair,
I tried to get the old ones off on the car, theyve been changed a couple of years ago but would they come off, of course not, so its was a undo them in a vice job, blowlamp etc
When i got them off, the ball joint was a bit loose....about 1/8" of movement in it from side to side rattley loose
, but it doent seem to be the grating noise ive had, turning the strut by hand the spring seems to squeekand vibrate as its turned left to right, i undid the top nut and the big rubber bit in the top looks ok, with the top rubber bit not touching the car the scqueeking/grating has gone
What should the suspension damper be like???, theres a loose plastic cover bit like a belows, if i push it to the top, theres a big lump rof rubber, again it looks brand new with no cracks or asnything , it can be slid up and down the damper (car jackd up), the spring doesnt move in relation to the damper so it held firm by the spring mounts

When it was all back together i rocked the steering from side to side i get a knock as i move it left to right, looking at the suspension turret the top nut and chrome bit moves about 3mm forwards and backwards (producing the knocking, i presume)
