suspension under load

get a knocking from the wheel(s), at first thought it was cv joint, but have noticed its not really happening when turning, but more when the suspension is under load (going over bumps or stopping at speed). is it possible for the suspension to make this noise, if so what part of the suspension would it be at fault? or is it still probably just the cv joints?
