2wd / 4wd suspension differences?

2wd / 4wd suspension differences?

by Dex » Sun Jul 16, 2006 10:17 am

Just a thought...

Ignoring the different front springs for the V6 - I have a V6 *calibra* (edited as i am a muppet) and want to know what suspension i can fit - i know that the 2 litre suspension will have lower spring rate on the front, but what about turbo suspension?

I'm guessing the Fronts will fit fine (but with lower spring rate) is the fitting for the rear shocks different on 4wd? Are the springs different fitment?

many thanks

aha so the turbo rear shocks and spring will fit but be higher rated?

It just gets better...

If you mean the suspension of a V6 cav to a V6 cally or the other way, isnt the cav a non independent setup, whereas the cally and cav GSI and turbo an independent setup? So arnt the shocks/springs different mounting?

IIRC only the 8v Cav's had Non-IRS.

Ok so i didn't make it very clear (because I wrote cav instead of calibra!)

I have a V6 Calibra and want to fit new suspension - will the suspension from *any* calibra fit? or can i only use 2wd suspension?

calibra turbo suspension is the same as any other calibra. weight included. The only reason an LET will weigh more (net) is because of that heavey transfer box, diff and driveshafts. All of which I dont have so im running a super light cally T now

- no such thing as a 2wd suspension. there is a 2wd floorpan though. Turbo shocks will be slightly better but vx played about with springs and shocks a fair bit. I have the full irmscher spec suspension on my SE5 which im guessing the shocks are Turbo. My LE had uprated rear springs but not front for some reason. Stahdard calibras get very little in the way of sport pack though.
