4X4 TURBO IRMSCHER tracking problems

by COOLCHILLIE » Thu May 11, 2006 5:12 am

Firstly, "Hello to all here." i was on here last september requesting info on buying a 4x4. well guess what? I BOUGHT ONE. Thank you Phantom and GeordieSteve for your input.
Now for the technical query....after purchasing the car (No. 40 of 51?) i decided to fit new tyres. Potenzas. the old tyres came off with beautifully evenly worn thread pattern and needless to say i was delighted. Then the problems started.
I live in Ireland and to be honest, they havent a clue what a 4X4 is over here. they think its a jeep or something.....
this was confirmed when my new tyres began eating the road on the insides of both front.
can anybody tell me where i'll find the settings for the tracking? the car was never modified in any way except the bushings replaced by Vauxhall during a £1200 service. because its an irmscher modified car, how much would it have been lowered or does it matter? any help on this gets free guinness as its cheaper than replacing the tyres every few thousand miles..thanks

AFAIK, as far as toe is concerned, it should simply be close to 0 and equal on both sides(if it is unequal the steering wheel will be misaligned, that's all).. and that goes for almost all cars including the cally T.
i think factory settings are 2mm to 0mm for toe.. it is better to get closer to 0mm for tread life. although different toe settings can get better turn in and stuff like that, i doubt most people would notice the change..

as for other settings - you can't really change them without fitting aftermarket kits(like the one k-mac sells).. camber should be below 2 degrees and always equal on both sides. castor doesnt really affect tread wear but should be above 1 degrees and also equal on both sides. factory max for castor is i think 3 degrees although i dont see any reason not to have even higher castor..

all in all, any geometry setup place should have factory settings for the calibra turbo in their computer.. if they have settings here in croatia they must have them in ireland..

if it is an irmscher modded car its gonna have the irmscher camber bushes in the rear, take your car to a place that has laser tracking and get them to check it over as it will cause very very expensive damage to the 4x4 system, pull fuse 19 to turn the 4x4 off until then is the best advice i can give you

yes but if the overall rolling diameter of the tyres go out by more than 2-3mm each then the transfer box goes pop, it is possible to get a camber correction kit for the fronts. he needs to get the tracking professionally done on a laser tracking machine

yah, that's for sure, he needs laser tracking done.. i just told him what the values should be if the irish dont know
most probably his front toe is way out or something..

BlackKnight and dj smurph, thanks. they put it on a laser tracking machine but set it up for the calibra 4x4 on the system. i explained that it was lowered by Irmscher but the blank looks and lack of response told me they hadn't a clue.. is there any site i can check for the correct settings? thanks for your input. its a good start

not trying to be rude, but you don't really need to tell people it's an "irmscher calibra"..
irmscher are not really engineers, they just lowered the car, put some cosmetics on it and, maybe drilled discs and different pads and that's about it.. in addition they hardly manufacture any of those parts, they order them from other manufacturers or lend them from stronger/bigger opels/vauxhalls and repaint/rebrand them.. in other words - it doesn't really deserve to be listed in tracking software as a separate car.
the fact that it's an irmscher tuned calibra shouldn't really change anything... they should have kept within factory specs. just run the tracking as if you had a regular calibra 4x4. the settings should be the same. if they werent the same, the transfer box would blow.

thanks for the input but sadly you both got it wrong according to Irmscher uk. Vauxhall fitted their standard rear bushings (part no. 90344207) and Irmscher told me to source 2704004 part numbers. cost €41.54 + vat. they even e-mailed me the settings and tech details.. i'll wait to see what the laser tracking machine read outs are and get back to you .. thanks again

ps.. they even told me to contact vauxhall and request the proper bushings be fitted free of charge.. as the vauxhall bushings will affect the handling especially over speed bumps and fast cornering.. i'll keep ye posted..

Hi all, hopefully theres an attachment with this which lists the correct settings for the camber, caster, toe etc for the irmscher lowering kit as fitted to 4x4 dtm calibra rear. these are from Irmscher UK and were kindly given by Tom via Jonathan in the warehouse. A big thank you to both. these are direct from the German factory and are exactly as were set up from day one. not sure if the quality is good or not on the scan but if not then i'll re-type them later on.
The tyre centre didnt want to set my car as described in the info as it differed from their settings and the guy basically told me he was right and the settings i supplied were wrong. I LEFT. Im getting it done elsewhere now. I'll keep ye posted

Sadly johnny it was daltons i went to first day. They cant get me the caps for the alloys either but i have an ace up my sleeve. I have to say though that you're right about the wheel repairs. €60 to repair my alloy was well worth it. You should have seen the state of the pothole after i hit it back!!! There is a Lithuanian guy who does the repairs and i sat and watched him for 2 hours. The man is gifted. Highly recommend the repair centre.
