weird knocking noise
<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Yesterday I had sorted the creaking from the passenger wishbone, it turned out that the rear rubber was squeaking now I used some wd40 on it and the creak was no more .but today when I took it out I had a slight loud knock , I think it could be both rubbers on the antiroll bar link (both the top one that sits in the groove above the link and the one underneath.
Now they look perished , I know chappers did have a look the other day and said the rubbers look perished , but we did seem to have a problem getting them located into the holes when we had the car jacked up maybe this is why the rubbers have slightly perished or do you guys think it could be something else (ive checked the cv"s etc and they are fine , I will post up a pic later

well where ive wd40d all the rubbers on the wishbones its only made the noise today.for a few months ive had this creaking which i first thought it was one of the top strut mountings etc and the minute i wd40d the rear rubbers the noise had stopped , i even checked the rear nut and it didnt seem to be tight as it should be so i retightened it.
took the car up the road gathered up speed and then breaked and there was a loud knock, but im almost certain its the bushes around the arb link , as i said later i will get a pic up to show you what i mean.

they are far from great obviously, but they arnt making the noise 98% certain.
if the rear bolt was loose, then odds are the hole in the subframe has become oval from movement, and even tightening it up they are moving about.. what did you tighten it with? a long breaker bar?? if not do that and try again.

sorry stu the bolt wasnt loose it was tight but not as tight as it should of been .i checked both bolts that go into the subframe and even tho one i had to tighten up the other one didnt want to move.i also slightly tightened the nut under the arb link aa slight adjustment.
bear in mind i sprayed wd40 between the bushes /nuts of the arb link as well as the main bolts that bolt into subframe.so could this of started to make the noise perhaps
but i cant understand how yesterday all i had was creaks and then after spraying with wd40 today had a few knocks now and again , i cant work it out

I wouldnt just randomly buy things, if you cant work it out then take it to a garage and get them to check it out for you, that shouldnt cost much if anything and then when you have thier dignosis you can decide if you can fix it or not.

its just strange how all of a sudden ive got one knock since ive wd40d the bushes (perhaps i shouldnt of done that...
oh well im off work tomorrow so i will get it jacked up and check it over , worst case scenario take it to tinas dad next weekend and see what we can do.
i thought you can buy the rubbers n bushes separately as there is nothing wrong with the arb link itself
dave ,
i dont mind you hijacking my thread ,at the end of the day we are all here to help each other

WD40 kills rubber... but it shouldnt have done it in a day? In future you want to avoid getting WD40 on rubber, it causes it to go brittle over time...
As for the knocking, ive had some on my cally and so far ive replaced, the tie rod ends, ARB links, the shocks and springs, just got the LSA including ball joints to replace... no knocking noises now... could well be the shocks though...

yeah it could well be mike , but i still cant get round as the car was perfect with a few creaks and the minute i wd'd the rear wishbone rubber/bolt i have this knock .i just dont understand how one minute my car was fine one.
i took it out today and it does feel like the antiroll bar ,ive checked everything else and everything seems to be okay
as for the noise sometimes it does it when you pull away from say a set of traffic lights , sometimes when you brake from speed and also sometimes when you turn the steering wheel ie changing roadlanes.
