How do you 'turn' the handbrake adjuster!??
yeah, undo the two caliper bolts, the abs sensor also comes of with this, i just made a hook out of some wire and hooked them onto the chassis of the car to stop it getting in the way and take the weight off the brake pipe, not sure whats screws you are on? the two that hold the springs in place? they have sort of a spade end (hard to explain, theres probably a technical term 4 them) they locate in a slotted hole, then when u turn it a quater, the slotted bit on the screw lines up with the slot in the whole and realeases it. is this what your talking about? they do ping off if your not expecting it, and it would leave your brake shoe floating about (from what i remember)

That sounds about right Doodley, without getting the disc off to see clearly I can't tell for certain, but the screw(s) were definately near/next to the springs (hence me thinking it was the adjusting bit..)
If it wasn't for the fact that I need welding done I'd probably give it a go over the weekend (nip out and get the bits tommorow and/or friday), but as the welding needs doing anyway I'll see what sort of price the mechanic wants for doing the whole thing.
In a twisted way I was / am quite looking forward to doing the handbrake, as I really enjoy working on the car - I might not say that when I'm sat on the driveway swearing at a stubborn screw, but it's nice when it's all done and it's by your own hand(s).

Well, I finally got around to looking today, as suggested, just undid the caliper mounting bolts and put it out of the way.
Disc wasn't too hard to remove, was quite suprised!
When I got it all off I could see why I was having trouble with the 'adjuster'..... because it's at the top of my handbrake assembly, when the Haynes pics shows it at the bottom! easy now I've seen it without the disc obscuring it..
Had to remove the handbrake shoes for now as one was cracked, but it's in for fixit work and MOT tommorow (cue expense. . . . .)
