Brake questions

by johnny_adidas » Sun May 07, 2006 10:43 pm

Right time has come to chnge my brakes. basically have a grinding noise coming from the rears, knew they would have to be changed soon but was hoping it would be ok for another while.
Rear discs are fairly bad. front discs look fine.

gona swp my front discs to the back and put some new drilled and grooved on the front. prob gona go for green stuff pads all around.

question is should i upgrade to braided hoses now as well. or can they be done in a months time or so if i was unhappy with how the brakes at that stage.

second question is if i can change the brakes (done this before on another car already) its there much involved in replacing handbrake components?

ok after a bit more research, i think im just gona replace the back disc and get some decent pads. i cant source greenstuffs anywhere locally and have been told they can warp the discs while also taking a while to heat up. gona invest in the braided hoses though. cant find any on ebay so guess ill just have to do some surfing.

aftere my initial embarrassment, i checked the set of discs and pads i had at home to discover they were a front set.
went off and bought a set of brembo discs and mintex pads locally to replace the rears.
all went fine until i tried to remove the calipers. not a hope in hell of the 2 bolts moving. even got someone else to try just to make sure it was just me. tried wd40, no budge, tried a hammer on the socket handle. no budge. and theres not enough room to try a breaker bar. any ideas?

Did you try fitting the socket over the bolt and wack the socket with a hammer?
