aintr got a clue i know it was of mk3 cav or calibra which model i have know idea i took the insert out of the one from the scrappy and put it in my strut /hub with my spring the spring off the other strut was bigger than mine does this mean the shocker could be longer aswell

The if the shock is roughtly the right height it should be the same level as the shock is going to be partially withtracted by the weight of the engine. height issues should be spring related only.
Have you actually moved the car yet? it might just settle when you let the handbrake off and roll it back forth a bit.
The other problem swapping just one, gas v's oil shocks, if ones leaked a bit and not got such high gas pressure it might not "lift" the car so high. do they feel the same "weight" when you try to bounce each corner?

tbh fitting just one shock of "some cav" isnt a good plan, at least fit them in pairs. but you really ought to know if its the right one or not. part numbers on the insert would help there.

It wouldnt be a bad idea. buy them from a motor factors and they'll be pretty cheap anyway.

Shocks or springs should be changed in pair...
