rear backplate

The retaining pin for the handbrake shoe on the drivers side came loose.
when i took the hub off the sproing dropped out and then the pin which was bent into a right angle. this had then gone under the meat on the shoe gouging it off completely. replaced all shoes after bashing the rusted holes flat.

How easy is it to change the backplate before this happens again

Removing the backplate is relatively easy if you have indeed taken off the hub. Or did you mean the drum/disc? You have to remove the hub (Wheel carrier) to remove the backplate because it wont pass over the hub. Removing the hub is B*****d of a job. Simplest way is to swap the whole trailing arm for a better one!
