is the 8v and 16v drive shafts the same? o/s

Not neccessarily.

The 8v more commonly has one long shaft from the gearbox to the hub (not all the time though) where as the 16V more commonly has a split shaft that mounts to the back of the engine on a centre bearing with a drive shaft with the 2 cv joints connected from that to the hub. Again, not all the time but as I said, these are onyl the more common types that I've found.
The split shaft is more bulky....and stronger than the long thin one.

If it was the left hand side then yes I believe they are the same.
