Would these brakes fit?

by slugger_2003 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 12:18 am

I was told golf/corrado vr6 brakes would fit the 2.0 16v Redtop calibra. I need to replace my brakes so may aswell upgrade while I'm at it..
So, would these fit?

Obviously I'd need discs too but I'd like to know if they will fit first. Thanks

I've seen VW discs made to fit but not calipers before, can't comment on those

I have heard similar, but i don't know anyone using them. Why don't you upgrade to tubby 288s, or Sabb 308s?

Because tubby 288's and saab 308's wouldn't fit straight on like the vr6 288's would? Or would they?

I think they would, the mounting holes are the same across the range. You would need the discs redrilling for 4 stud though.
Or go for the Regal? 308 kit, apparently it's come down in price recently.

It depends on the age of Calibra....some of the 16v's are already 5 stud although most are 4 admittedly.

I got the 308mm kit from LMF and think they are great. Depending on what style of disc you want, prices between £325 and £375 IIRC.

I've never seen a 16v on 5 stud? Would make getting parts a bit hard methinks.

Edit: Yeah LMF not Regal, my bad.

Ha, £325 for a student is a wee bitty much thanks. But thanks for the suggestion. Been looking on ebay. Is it much hassle to re-drill the discs? Are the calipers the same on a N/A redtop cally and a turbo redtop cally? Even the 284(i think?) and 288mm discs?
Could I get some confirmation on this? The saab 308mm discs and calipers (what model of saab do these come off?) and the calibra turbo 288mm discs and calipers will fit straight onto my 1994 2.0 16v Redtop Calibra? No-one here is sure if the 288mm golf/corrado vr6 discs and calipers would fit straight on?

Thanks.

8v/16v/ use 4 stud hubs and Turbo/V6 use 5 stud hubs, as for using other brakes from other cars most people tend to use brakes from other vauxhall cars

I know that is the general fitment but I know I have definately seen a 16V on 5 stud. If its not original, I can only imagine it had been converted.

Any reason why most people tend to use brakes from other vauxhalls? Which uprated vauxhall brakes would you suggest?

Because you can get larger sets and cheap from the second hand market.

Ok, so could you reccomend any vauxhall brake upgrades for my 1994 2.0 Redtop Calibra?
