Nearside rear brake knocking
Hi all, seem to have developed a knocking coming from the back lefthand wheel when I apply the brake. It cant be heard at high speed but is clearly audiable under 30mph.
Local mechanic says it sounds like the handbrake (which IS due for a new cable) but, considering the sound occurs whist operating the foot brake, i'm not convinced.
Recently had new pads all round and new handbrake drum.
Any advise appreciated.
Thanks

For anyone interested...
....it was due to the brake pad springy spacer thing rusting away to nothing. now the pad hits the caliper when I brake. Anyone know what this part is, how I can get hold of one and how to fit?
Cheers all

one of mine did that, was down to the retaining pegs and springs, cheap from any motorspare shop, easy to do as well

you can get new guide pins and retaining springs from vauxhall as well, the sound you're hearing is the brake pad hitting the disk as the spring is not holding the pads back, it's either rusted that badly it's not doing its job or its no longer there
on another note, what pads were fitted, genuine GM ones?? as someones fitted the cheap ones on the rear of my turbo and they actually rattle when you go over bumps

Nail on the head Phantom, Cannot work out what that god damn rattle is or where its coming from! It sounds aweful. I thought it was the exhaust out of alignment and was just about to roll it into quickfit earlier.
so how do I go about stopping this? I'm due for new discs soon anyhow so shall I just do the lot in one? Baring in mind i'm a cheap ar%e and will probably go for the cheapest I can find.
Nice one. + your way

yes I'd wait until they need doing
if you're a member of the club you'll have access to the trade club account at vauxhall, genuine rear brake pads are £10.03 and new rear disks are £49.95 I'll bet you'll pay the same at any of the other suppliers or local motor factors for non genuine parts, choice is yours really, the £20 membership is soon got back once you start buying parts
