You could try heating it and hitting it with a BFH, but if it doesn't crack the alloy it'll certainly weaken it.

Not many alloys can be bent back into shape. Some like the Team Dynamics 'pro race' range are made of magnesium alloy and can be heated safely.

why dont you take a picture of the unmarked road works and the damage of the wheel and claim the council/highways maintanance dept
try that mate because it is there fault,if there wasnt any warning signs

probably a manhole cover, "raised ironwork" is the sign used, or should be used.

If it was mine i'd probably just hit it with a hammer, but I guess if you know someone who can heat it without melting it then it wouldnt hurt, though then means taking the tyre off, and repainting.. hence i'd just hit it with a hammer and a bit of wood to soften the blow.

I'd put in a claim to the council. get a professional repair quote , together with the price of a new wheel. gather as much evidence as possible , photos ,how high the object is sticking up from the road surface or pot hole etc . photograph with a tape measure against the offending item & the damaged wheel , photograph the road in general showing lack of warning signs etc. more evidence the better chance you stand of winning.

it is a long drawn out process to claim from the council, but stick with it , i have known people make similar claims & win.....

you pay your road tax & council tax so you can drive on good roads....
good luck

I dont want to sound negative, but my wife is a civil eng for South Lanarkshire roads department,
You will only win a claim if the council is at fault.
If the pothole etc hasnt been reported to them and the road has been inspected (loads of different time scales depending on type of road) then there not at fault,
If the pothole has been reported then they have so many days to fix it again depending on which type of road and size of defect.
Get as much info and pics as you can, it will be put to an independant insurance company who will look in to it.
We all know what insurance companys are like.
I think its all wrong but thats the way it is. well up here anyway.

aye your right there steve i claimed the council up there , the road between lanark and the forth, and it was a long drawn out process, all in toll it took 12months t get a result, but when it happened to me down here it took 2 months , and they replaced the wheel
